Advocacy

The LCVN derives its position on legislative/public policy initiatives by creating an annual legislative agenda. Once created, the agenda is used to benchmark LCVN actions and decisions in support or opposition to public policy and/or legislative initiatives.

Grassroots advocacy is the means by which we achieve our work. We hire no lobbyist, and many of us have years of experience in policy analysis and monitoring. During the General Assembly sessions, we determine which bills and/or budget amendments require action. Members contact their legislators individually. In addition, members who represent nursing organizations take on the responsibility of forwarding action alerts to their membership for advocacy.

Occasionally we hold educational sessions on grassroots advocacy. The grassroots guide contains useful information. In addition, the General Assembly maintains a citizen’s guide to its work.
